Our Mission

To preserve and grow Miles Labor & Delivery at Lincoln Hospital as the cornerstone of a nationally recognized model for rural maternal and infant healthcare, ensuring exceptional care for local families while advancing the future of rural healthcare.

What’s at Stake

For Families

Mothers, babies, and families lose access to crucial local healthcare services. Trips to the hospital become hours rather than minutes, putting birthing parents and their babies at increased risk.

For the Community

Data shows that the loss of a l&d unit negatively impacts its community. Often this is the first step on the path to a hospital closing other vital services, like the emergency department. This lack of services deter younger generations from staying in or moving to our towns, which impacts our local businesses and services. What happens to our community as a whole if our healthcare and economy become stunted?

For the State

A waterfall effect is already taking place throughout Maine. Labor and delivery units are becoming overcrowded and understaffed due to strains of surrounding units closing in the last several years. Another closure only strains the system further.

How you can help

It takes a village. Your involvement can make a difference—whether you have a few minutes or a few hours; or if you can offer time at home or out in the community. Your efforts matter to keep Miles Family Birth Center open. Find a way (or several!) to help that works for you:
